2026 Kids Who Rock Camps

I just spent the last two weeks working with kids, 9-17 years old, teaching and creating music. I am a Board Member of the Kids Who Rock nonprofit organization and also a Camp Leader and Music Instructor. I teach Bass guitar and then I shepherd a band of 5-6 kids in writing a song, practicing and then performing the song for family and friends at an end-of-week showcase. This was my third year.

We have two separate weeks for camp. Week 1 is for the boys, we call it Dudes Rock and this year we had 25 boys. I taught bass to five students and then worked with a band of 11-12 year olds. We wrote a song called Everybody Freeze! The band was called Cyber Systematic and we created a logo and a band poster. The boys considered wearing makeup like KISS but I talked them into wearing masks. So I got them LED masks from Amazon. At the showcase, we started our song in the dark with only the masks showing. It was a hit!

The second week was the girls camp. We call it Chicks Who Rock. This year we had 25 girls and 5 boys who couldn’t make the Boys week. Again I taught Bass to six girls and worked with a band of 11-12 year old girls and one boy. They called themselves Running With Scissors. We made a logo and created a Band Poster. The song we played at the showcase was called Little Debbies. A song about the snacks at the camp. It was a hit!

We are done with music camps until next July. As a nonprofit we are always looking for donations. The camps are put together through generous donations of money and food and parent volunteers. If you would like to contribute, please go to our web page a select the donation link. It is tax deductible.

Kids Who Rock Announcement

After volunteering as a music instructor for two years, I am excited to announce that I have taken a Board position with the Kids Who Rock nonprofit organization. As the Director of Grants and Fundraisers, I will be focused on Grant submittals, donations and fundraising for this wonderful organization. We operate completely through private donations, grants and fundraisers.

All donations, grants and fundraising goes directly to providing instruments, facilities, food, arts and crafts materials and many other items allowing children to participate in programs and activities throughout the year that they would otherwise not be able.

Kids Who Rock seeks to empower and inspire the next generation of 9-18 year olds through access to music and the arts education regardless of socioeconomic status. We provide music camps, theater camps, field trips to local cultural sights and opportunities to attend musical and theatrical performances at no cost to the individual.

The Kids Who Rock organization continues to be an integral part of the communities we serve by participating in holiday parades, visiting and entertaining at senior citizens homes and volunteering at local food pantries.

Kids Who Rock has partnered with a number of local organizations such as the Dallas Songwriters Association, Harmony Science Academy and the Garland Symphony Orchestra to name a few.

I Bought a Guitar From Temu. Is it junk? Is it playable? Do I really need another guitar?

I took a chance and bought a guitar off of Temu, the Chinese site that sells stuff for dirt cheap prices. Is it junk? Is it playable? Do I really need another guitar? I went through the spinning of wheels and all the other crap Temu throws at you to finally find a guitar I wanted. So, was it junk? Watch the video.

Amazon $99 Guitar Kit Build

I recently bought a guitar build kit from Amazon. It cost me $99.99 and was in the body style of a Telecaster. I figured for $99 I couldn’t fail. So I built it. It is the STRICH DIY Electric Guitar Kit from Amazon. Was it worth it? Was it easy to build? Is it playable? All these questions are answered in the YouTube Playlist I created. So check it out if you’ve ever thought about building a kit guitar.
